Newest coaster at Six Flags lets riders fly

ATLANTA - Get ready to fly at Six Flags over Georgia.

The park's newest roller coaster - Superman-Ultimate Flight - has been cleared for take-off.

Just one of five in the world and the only one in the Southeast, the ride simulates flying through the air.

The flight experience begins with riders boarding seats that resemble ski-lift chairs suspended from the track above.

Once the restraints are locked in place, the floor beneath the riders' dangling feet drops and the seats tip forward.

The first hill drops riders 100 feet, and Superman continues its flight with a series of twists, curves, spins and dives. Riders are continually dropping close to the ground, then soaring back toward the sky.

Superman, on the site of the former Viper coaster, represents a record investment for the park, eclipsing last year's $16 million in improvements.
