TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA - The University of Alabama will take the next step in appealing NCAA sanctions on Friday, filing a brief supporting its position.
Alabama officials are hoping to receive the results of the appeal before the upcoming season begins, but said they would not comment until the brief is filed.
The university is not expected to release the contents of the appeals brief before its hearing in front of the NCAA Infractions Appeals Committee.
On Feb. 2, the NCAA placed Alabama on five years' probation, cutting 21 football scholarships over three years and imposing a two-year bowl ban for recruiting and extra benefits violations.
The university received a transcript of the Infractions Committee hearing after submitting a notice of appeal.
The committee will have 30 days to respond after the brief is received.
