Alabama to file brief supporting appeal

TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA - The University of Alabama will take the next step in appealing NCAA sanctions on Friday, filing a brief supporting its position. <br> <br> Alabama officials are hoping to receive the results of the appeal before the upcoming season begins, but said they would not comment until the brief is filed. <br> <br> The university is not expected to release the contents of the appeals brief before its hearing in front of the NCAA Infractions Appeals Committee. <br> <br> On Feb. 2, the NCAA placed Alabama on five years&#39; probation, cutting 21 football scholarships over three years and imposing a two-year bowl ban for recruiting and extra benefits violations. <br> <br> The university received a transcript of the Infractions Committee hearing after submitting a notice of appeal. <br> <br> The committee will have 30 days to respond after the brief is received.
