MARIETTA - Cobb County authorities have charged a Marietta couple with aggravated battery after their 2-month-old daughter was left brain dead from serious injuries. <br>

According to a criminal warrant filed in Cobb Magistrate Court, the child was shaken so severely, her retinas detached, and she was left brain dead. The warrant said the alleged shaking incident occurred Saturday night at the couple's home. <br>

Alonzo Tate, 37, and Stephanie Edwards, 35, were being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. <br>

Cobb County police spokesman Brody Staud said rescue workers were called to the couple's home around 2:15 p.m. Sunday. The mother told dispatchers that the baby had stopped breathing. <br>

The girl was transported to WellStar Cobb Hospital and then taken by LifeFlight from Cobb Hospital to Egleston Children's Hospital. <br>
<br>
Tate and Edwards were expected to make their first court appearance Tuesday morning.
