MACON - A small park in Macon will be dedicated to an Army major who grew up there and was killed when terrorists flew a jetliner into the Pentagon on September eleventh.
The Macon City Council unanimously approved a resolution yesterday to dedicate a memorial garden in the park on Overlook Avenue in memory of Army Major Cole Hogan.
The resolution paves the way for a neighborhood group to erect a stone memorial and engraved bronze plaque on the triangle-shaped property near the home of Hogan's parents.
A longtime friend of Hogan's father, Wallace, Macon Councilman Dick Dickey said,``It's a patriotic thing to do. He died a hero's death, and I think he ought to be honored.''
Cole Hogan, who was 40 years old, was at his desk at the Pentagon when the hijacked jetliner struck the building. His wife, Pat Hogan, is a medical doctor at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington.
