According to a criminal warrant filed in Cobb Magistrate Court, the child was shaken so severely Saturday night that her retinas detached. She was taken off life support and died Tuesday afternoon.
Thirty-seven-year-old Alonzo Tate and 35-year-old Stephanie Edwards were being held without bond in a Cobb County jail. They were arrested Monday on aggravated battery charges. The murder charges were added after an autopsy on the girl.
A probable cause and bond hearing was set for April 26th.
Rescue workers were called to the couple's home around 2:15 p.m. Sunday. The mother told dispatchers that the baby had stopped breathing.
The baby was taken to WellStar Cobb Hospital, where doctors say they found signs of violent trauma. She then was transferred by helicopter ambulance to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.
