LaGRANGE - Police have charged a man with murder, alleging that he starved his father to death over a period of six months.
Neighbors of Starvos Lamont Simpson, 28, told police they didn't even know his father was living with him.
Calvin Simpson, 51, was pronounced dead last Thursday of dehydration and malnourishment, authorities said. Emergency medical personnel found the elder Simpson, about 6 feet tall and weighing only 74 pounds, in a bedroom that could be locked from the outside.
``It was evident he was very malnourished at the time of his death,'' said Sgt. Eric Lohr.
Police say Starvos Simpson kept his father locked inside the bedroom off and on during the past six months, depriving him of food or water.
The younger Simpson, who turned himself in to police Tuesday afternoon, could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted. He is being held at Troup County jail without bond.
Calvin Simpson, whom family members nicknamed Byrd, was a LaGrange native and a former custodian with the Troup County school system. He was buried Saturday in Southview Cemetery.
