Man charged in father's death by starvation

LaGRANGE - Police have charged a man with murder, alleging that he starved his father to death over a period of six months. <br> <br> Neighbors of Starvos Lamont Simpson, 28, told police they didn&#39;t even know his father was living with him. <br> <br> Calvin Simpson, 51, was pronounced dead last Thursday of dehydration and malnourishment, authorities said. Emergency medical personnel found the elder Simpson, about 6 feet tall and weighing only 74 pounds, in a bedroom that could be locked from the outside. <br> <br> ``It was evident he was very malnourished at the time of his death,&#39;&#39; said Sgt. Eric Lohr. <br> <br> Police say Starvos Simpson kept his father locked inside the bedroom off and on during the past six months, depriving him of food or water. <br> <br> The younger Simpson, who turned himself in to police Tuesday afternoon, could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted. He is being held at Troup County jail without bond. <br> <br> Calvin Simpson, whom family members nicknamed Byrd, was a LaGrange native and a former custodian with the Troup County school system. He was buried Saturday in Southview Cemetery.
