Gambino family member gets eight years for racketeering

FORT LAUDERDALE - A member of the Gambino Mafia family received an eight-year, four-month federal prison sentence Monday for overseeing a south Florida loan-sharking and check-cashing scheme. <br> <br> Anthony ``Tony Pep&#39;&#39; Trentacosta of Atlanta was convicted in November with Frederick Massero and Ariel Hernandez of racketeering. Officials say he is the only man ever to admit Mafia membership at his trial. <br> <br> Trentacosta&#39;s attorney, Stephen Rosen, said his client should not have been tried with the other two. Massero and Hernandez were also convicted for the 1999 slaying of exotic dancer Jeanette Smith. The 62-year-old Trentacosta was acquitted of her death. <br> <br> Rosen filed a notice of appeal.
