AUGUSTA - Dozens of travelers were stranded after Atlantic Southeast Airlines canceled nine flights through Augusta Regional Airport this weekend.
Company officials said an automated weather observation device wasn't working.
``My understanding of ASA company policy is they cannot operate without that system in place,'' said Kathryn Solee, a spokeswoman for Augusta Regional.
Nearly 500 people were affected after six flights were canceled Sunday and three on Monday. Travelers were stranded in Augusta and Atlanta airports.
The Automated Surface Observation System reports temperature and dew point. A technician had been notified. Flights involving US Airways were not affected, Solee said.
ASA spokesman Sam Watts said the company arranged bus transportation for those booked on the first canceled flight out of Atlanta.

``They are doing everything they can,'' he said.
