LAFAYETTE - Unidentified human remains from a Walker County crematory will be buried in a public memorial.
Not all bodies that were dumped at the Tri-State Crematory will be identified. Only 109 of 339 total corpses have been identified so far.
Georgia chief medical examiner Doctor Kris Sperry says it won't be possible to ID all the remains but that officials will not be allowed to cremate them.
Sperry said that after the criminal investigation is over, the remains will be numbered and buried in a park memorial planned for the tragedy.
Walker County Commissioner Bebe Heiskell said today that the 16-acre property around the crematory is probably not where a public memorial will go.
She says the tract will probably be tied up in court for a long time and asked local residents to give money for a new park and memorial. The commissioner says it's too early to know where the memorial will go or what it will be like.
