COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Three Arts Theatre closed its doors after 76 years following a final perfomance by the Columbus Symphony.
The city, which has owned the facility since 1964, sold the property to a hospital. Confetti flowed Saturday and patrons sang "Auld Lang Syne" as the theater closed.
"It's been a good thing, but all good things must end," said George Del Gobbo, the conductor and music director of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
The theater was once a movie house, and local art lovers saved it from a wrecking ball decades ago.
The symphony will move into the new, $67 million RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, with its first concert there scheduled May 11.
