COLUMBUS - A man with the nickname ``New York'' has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to stabbing a 50-year-old former co-worker 45 times.
The victim - Lucille Henderson Smith of Columbus - had told a friend weeks before the slaying that if anything ever happened to her, remember the name ``New York.''

As she talked on the phone one night last March, Smith's conversation with Claretha McFall was broken by a gagging sound, followed by the cry ``New York!''
Prosecutor Roger Anderson said Monday that 35-year-old Hayden McCloggan - who once worked at Columbus Foundry with Smith - forced her into the back yard, tore her clothes off and stabbed her with a steak knife until the serrated blade broke off in her shoulder.
The prosecutor suggested the motive was knowledge that Smith had recently received not only her paycheck, but a workers' compensation insurance settlement.
Anderson said McCloggan had been warned at work against harassing Smith.
