Georgia-Pacific board to vote May 7 on split

ATLANTA - The Georgia-Pacific board of directors will vote May 7 on a plan to separate the corporation&#39;s consumer and building products divisions. <br> <br> The vote on the new corporate structure will coincide with the Atlanta-based company&#39;s annual shareholders meeting. Georgia-Pacific spokesman Greg Guest would not give details of the plan. <br> <br> ``We&#39;re taking very distinctive parts and separating them,&#39;&#39; Guest said Friday. ``How do we do that? That&#39;s in the details that will come next month.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> The company also said Friday that Lee Thomas, former executive vice president of consumer products, has been named president of the building products and distribution business. <br> <br> Georgia-Pacific began with an Augusta lumberyard 75 years ago. The company, which now sells products such as Brawny paper towels and Dixie cups, has been trying to move away from a dependence on swinging cycles in its paper and building products businesses. <br> <br> Chief executive Pete Correll has said that splitting off the building products business which sells lumber, plywood and gypsum wallboard would ``unlock the value&#39;&#39; of the stock held in the steadier tissues products business.
