Northwestern State replaces Tulane on Georgia football schedule

ATHENS - Georgia, looking for a last-minute replacement after Tulane canceled a trip next fall to Sanford Stadium, will play NCAA Division 1-AA member Northwestern State on September 21.

Associate athletic director Damon Evans Damon Evans said Georgia wanted to played a Division 1-A opponent, but had difficulty finding a team because schedules are made so far in advance.

The Bulldogs first got indications that the game might be dropped in November. Evans said he had called Fresno State, Utah, Utah State, South Florida, Alabama-Birmingham, Cincinnati and Louisville about filling the slot.

The Demons, from Natchitoches, Louisiana, were 8-4 last season and lost in the first round of the playoffs to eventual champion Montana.

The Bulldogs, 8-4 in Mark Richt's first season, also have nonconference home games with Clemson and New Mexico State.
