Herbert Welch, of Meriwether County, pleaded innocent to charges of aggravated assault and aggressive driving.
Kenneth Childs, a retired Army sergeant and former truck driver, was uninjured in Thursday's shooting, but his 1993 Dodge Caravan was damaged from shots fired at the left tail light along the driver's side.
Childs said Welch had been tailgating his vehicle for more than a mile. Welch told police that Childs would not allow him to pass and instead, sped up to prevent him from doing so.
