MARIETTA - Cobb County police have charged eight people with operating a nationwide sports betting ring and seized more than $475,000 in cash, plus assets ranging from bank accounts to property. <br>

All of those arrested were bookies, a police spokesman, Officer Dana Pierce, said Thursday. An anonymous tip in 1999 led to an investigation that brought the arrests last week. <br>

Charged with commercial gambling and violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act were: Ross Parker Tarvin Jr., 48, and his wife, Monica Tarvin, 38, both of Dunwoody; John Wendell Driver, 52, and his wife, Patti Dawn Driver, 48, both of Alpharetta; Hulan Lamar Webb, 60, of Marietta and his son, Larry Edward Webb, 33, of Atlanta; Barry Carl Gilmer, 48, of Smyrna; and Arthur Rickman Miller, 52, of Rome. <br>

All were released on bond.
