BRUNSWICK - The lawyer for a Brunswick doctor convicted of trying to hire a hit man to kill his wife plans an appeal.
A federal court jury in Brunswick deliberated for about four hours Thursday before reaching its verdict against Doctor Carl Drury.
The 62-year-old Drury faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. U.S. District Judge Dudley Bowen did not set a sentencing date, which could come in up to 60 days.
Drury attorney Ed Garland of Atlanta said he plans to file a motion for a new trial challenging some of Bowen's rulings during the case, which must be done within seven days. If that fails, Garland said Drury will appeal to the Eleventh U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta.
Drury told the jury that allegations he wanted a hit man to kill Mary Drury were ``a vicious lie.'' Drury was charged with plotting to murder her in four telephone calls last August and with giving the undercover agent a gun to commit the crime.
