LAFAYETTE - Walker County has accepted the resignation of Ray Brent Marsh from its Department of Family and Children's Services.
Marsh is the operator of Tri-State Crematory -- where more than 330 corpses have been found over the past two weeks. He was appointed to the children's services board in 1998.
The county asked for his resignation last week. He provided it -- and the county commissioner accepted the resignation Wednesday.
Former state legislator Billy Shaw Abney has been appointed to serve the rest of Marsh's five-year term.
Marsh is awaiting his latest bond hearing. He is in jail on 118 theft-by-deception charges.
