HOLLYWOOD, FLORIDA - A controversial company says its cloning experiments are only beginning.
The head of Clonaid tells reporters in Florida the company has produced the world's first human clone - a baby girl.
Company head Brigitte Boisselier (bwah-suh-lee-AY') claims to be a chemist and also belongs to a sect that believes aliens created life on Earth.
She says the seven-pound baby was born yesterday, and that the mother is a 31-year-old American woman who resorted to cloning because her mate is infertile.
She says she expects four more cloned babies to be born in the next few weeks -- another from North America, one from Europe and two from Asia.
She claims two of the couples are using preserved cells taken from their own children, who apparently had died. She says another case involves a lesbian couple.
She says the couples weren't asked to pay, but some have invested in Clonaid.
