FLEMING - Authorities are conducting an autopsy Monday on a postal worker found slain Saturday in the town of Fleming's one-room post office.
A spokesman for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Joel Mendelsohn, said robbery may have been the motive in the stabbing death of 48-year-old Sally Gaglia, who was working alone in the small post office Saturday morning.
Mendelsohn said an undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the post office, which was open for business until 11:30 a.m. Saturday. A customer found her body behind the counter.
Federal authorities are investigating because offenses against postal workers are federal crimes. Police are hopeful they can help the federal agents solve the case.
Fleming is located in eastern Liberty County, about 25 miles southwest of Savannah.
Gaglia had worked for the postal service since April 1994 and was well-liked by customers, who knew her as ``Miss Sally.''
