WINDSOR LOCKS, CONNECTICUT - A power outage Tuesday affecting more than 12,000 customers in northern Connecticut brought some airline traffic to a halt at Bradley International Airport, including several Delta Air Lines flights.

Power went out at about 3 p.m., said Frank Poirot, a spokesman for Northeast Utilities, the parent company of Connecticut Light & Power. At Bradley, the outage primarily affected Terminal B, which was built in 1951, airport administrator Stephen Korta said.

The newer Terminal A was being powered by a backup generator, Korta said.

Customers in Windsor Locks, East Windsor, Enfield and Suffield were affected by the outage, Poirot said. Utility officials believe the outage was caused by a tree branch or a tree that struck a line.

Utility officials could not blame the weather, which was clear, sunny and cold.

``Sometimes, that's how it works,'' Poirot said. ``You have outages at odd times.''

The utility expected to restore power to all customers by about 8 p.m., Poirot said.
American Airlines has canceled all outbound flights until Wednesday morning, spokesman Todd Burke said. With computers and other equipment down no passenger screening or ticketing was possible, he said.

An incoming flight from Dallas to Bradley was continuing as scheduled, Burke said.

Delta canceled three inbound and three outbound flights, an airline spokeswoman said.
Several airlines at Terminal A were allowing the use of jet bridges and other equipment, Korta said.
