I Guess You'd Call It A Jack Daniels Homecoming.

I've been thinking about going back to my old home town the latter part of this month. They've got a big international event going on. Maybe I'd better explain: you see, grew up in Lynchburg, Tennessee. Now, Lynchburg was a little town, even though it was the county seat of Moore County. Less than 500 people. So, it shouldn't be known anywhere by anybody. But it has a big limestone spring flowing from a cave across the creek from where we lived, and that was the liquid that went into (you guessed it) Jack Daniel's whiskey. So, all these years when I told somebody where I grew up, they would say: "Oh, that's where they make Jack Daniels."

Well, now they have another one going that may make them just as famous as Black Jack ... barbecue. There are barbecue centers about everywhere you can think of, and all claim to be famous and the very best. So Lynchburg (Tennessee, remember?) has an INTERNATIONAL barbecue contest going on, and they've got entries from Jamaica to Australia . from Canada to Texas. In fact, you put your finger on a globe and some barbecue cookin', Jack Daniel sippin' character is likely to be there.

I was back in Lynchburg for a high school reunion a while back, and it seemed to me it hadn't changed much since I grew up there .. but that's going to be unique to hear all those languages they're going to be speaking at the Jack Daniels World Championship Invitational Barbecue." I may have to take that in.
