DENVER - A Georgia lending company has agreed to pay five-thousand dollars in the first case of follow-up action for a company accused of violating Colorado's no-call telemarketing law.
The state attorney general's office said six more companies are under investigation for continued complaints of calling numbers on a list of people who don't want calls from telemarketers, even though the companies had been ordered to stop.
First Atlantic Mortgage, based in Norcross, Georgia, received a cease-and-desist order in July and agreed to stop, but the state received more complaints that it called numbers on the no-call list.
Penalties of two-thousand dollars per violation and a lawsuit could result if there are more violations.
Mortgage or consumer loan companies have been the most frequent subject of complaints, followed by telephone services, credit card solicitors, home improvement and travel calls.
