Lawsuit filed on behalf of family of teen shot by cop

ATLANTA - Lawyer Johnnie Cochran has filed a lawsuit against Atlanta police on behalf of the family of a black teenager who was fatally shot by a white officer. <br> <br> The suit filed Tuesday in Fulton County State Court names Officer Raymond Bunn, his partner, Terry Mulkey, Chief Richard Pennington and the entire Atlanta Police Department. <br> <br> Corey Ward, 18, was shot to death July 14 in Atlanta&#39;s Buckhead district after plainclothes officers in an unmarked car heard the sound of glass breaking and rushed to investigate. <br> <br> Police said when the car alarm sounded, Ward tried to drive away in a sport utility vehicle. Bunn, who is white, ordered Ward to stop, but the teen continued driving and struck the officer, according to police reports. Bunn fired at the driver, killing Ward. <br> <br> Ward&#39;s relatives said he was not aware that Bunn was a police officer. Authorities have said Bunn identified himself as such. <br> <br> Five passengers in the vehicle with Ward were charged with obstruction of an officer and breaking into a vehicle. In September, police announced they were dropping the charges.
