ALBANY - An Albany high school math teacher charged with murder in the death of his father 12 years ago has been reassigned to administrative duty while awaiting trial.
Fifty-three-year-old William Scheer is charged with killing his father -- William Henry Scheer -- with a golf club at the Albany home they shared.

He was released on $65,000 bond and ordered to remain under house arrest. A judge said Scheer would be allowed to go to work and keep legal or medical appointments.
Scheer -- a math teacher at Monroe High School -- maintains his innocence.
Dougherty County School System attorney Tommy Coleman says the school system agreed Thursday to reassign Scheer to the curriculum and instruction department --- an administrative post -- until the charges against him are resolved.
Education officials say Scheer could be asked to evaluate student performance on test questions and help draft math exams as part of his assignment.
Scheer's attorney -- Pete Donaldson -- says Scheer can do some of the work from a computer at his home and some of it at school administration offices in downtown Albany.
Arrangements for his new assignment are not complete and a date for his return to work is not yet set.
