ATLANTA - A top administrator of Georgia's colleges and universities, chosen last summer for a key education post in Florida, has turned the new job down and will remain in Georgia.
Daniel S. Papp, senior vice chancellor for academics and fiscal affairs, had accepted the position of chancellor of Florida's Division of Colleges and Universities and was to have begun his duties January First.
In announcing Monday that he has turned down the job, Papp cited changed circumstances and remaining uncertainties about the roles and responsibilities of the position in Florida.
Papp did not elaborate about his concerns with Florida's system, but a statement issued by the Florida Board of Education said Papp notified the board that a factor in his decision was the passage of Amendment Eleven, which will create a university system Board of Governors.
