DeKalb County receives federal grant for emergency corps

ATLANTA - DeKalb County will be one of the first in the country to create a medical reserve corps to help manage public health emergencies, federal officials said Friday. <br>

The county's Board of Health received $50,000 to create the program. The funds are among $2 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services have provided to 42 community-based organizations around the country to create medical reserve corps. <br>

Community volunteers, which include area health professionals, will take part in emergency response, logistical planning, records keeping, assisting in public health and awareness campaigns and public communications.
