NEW BADEN, ILLINOIS - Police were investigating the shooting death of a Georgia man whose body was found Friday morning in his tractor-trailer at a road side near New Baden in southwest Illinois.
Robert G. Armfield, 36, of Ludowici, Ga., was shot four times, including once in the back of the head, St. Clair County Coroner Rick Stone said.
Authorities said Armfield's truck had been parked for at least two days near an Illinois 161 off-ramp that connects to the eastbound lanes of Interstate 64.
The Illinois State Police was investigating but did not release any details of the case. Police also would not identify the name of the company for which Armfield was driving.
The company notified authorities after a global positioning system indicated that Armfield's tractor-trailer hadn't moved for two days, Stone said.
