UNDATED - Civilian workers at Fort Benning and Robins Air Force Base face cutbacks that could mean the loss of several hundred jobs.
An official at Robins said Friday that 240 positions may be cut over the next two years.
``We have been directed by Headquarters Air Force Materiel Command to submit a plan to reduce about 200 civilian and 40 military authorizations,'' said Steve Davis, the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center executive director, in a written statement.

The logistics center employs 11,300 civilians and 2,000 military members.

Supervisors Friday told Fort Benning employees whether they would be affected by a staff reduction due to outsourcing of positions in maintenance and repair operations.

The directorate of Facilities, Engineering and Logistics at the post, which will be run by Shaw Infrastructures Inc. in January, has employed 900 civilians.

Officials said 181 of those would be dismissed, 131 assigned to other jobs at the same pay level, 57 would receive lower-paying jobs, and 289 accepted early retirement packages.
Those being dismissed or assigned to lower-level jobs will have a ``right of first refusal'' for jobs with Shaw, which will have about 500 jobs to fill, post officials said.
