Nick Miller, a spokesman for the Delta Connections carrier Comair, said three crew members and 47 passengers were aboard the plane, which hit turbulence about 30 minutes before landing safely around 6:20 p.m.
Tara Hamilton of the National Capital Area Airports Authority said six of the passengers were treated at local hospitals and released. Another two were reportedly also checked out for minor injuries.
Miller said the incident was still under investigation and would not say what had caused the turbulence.
