Prosecution rests in assault trial

CARROLLTON - Jurors Tuesday viewed key evidence against two former baseball players at the State University of West Georgia accused of assaulting a female student. <br> <br> A videotape apparently made by the defendants -- 22-year-olds Michael Perez of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Bryant Hodges of Donalsonville -- of the incident at Perez&#39;s apartment in January. <br> <br> A third ball player -- 21-year-old Barry Allen Sommer of Eustis, Florida -- pleaded guilty Monday to aggravated assault with intent to rape. <br> <br> Sommer testified Tuesday morning, saying, ``It was a very stupid thing to do. I regret every minute of it.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> Sommer said the alleged victim, who had been drinking heavily, never consented to sex with any of the defendants. He said he and the others fondled the young woman after she fell unconscious. <br> <br> The 20-year-old victim answered questions from the defense. She said she did not remember whether she consented because she was unconscious.
