Foster home shut down after hot dog death

By
ATLANTA - The state Department of Children and Family Services has closed a DeKalb County foster home where an 11-month-old choked to death on a hot dog.

George Walker III was placed in the home after DFACS determined his biological mother could not take care of him. The death was ruled accidental, but the foster mother, Bobbie Ward, was not at home at the time of the death. Her 19-year-old daughter was watching the child.

Wilfred Hamm of DFACS said the department has closed the foster home permanently. Three children were removed from the home, officials announced earlier this week.

The child's grandmother has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the state.
