MARIETTA - Police on Friday arrested a man suspected of stabbing his wife in front of her 16-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son.
Police said David Sanders, 47, of Marietta stabbed 43-year-old Sheila Newson after an argument in the recently married couple's apartment.
One of the children had called 911 about 2:40 a.m. to report the mother and stepfather were fighting, police said.
Newson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police charged Sanders with murder and two counts of cruelty to children.
Police spokesman Brian Marshall said the cruelty charges were filed because the stabbing happened in front of the children.
Sanders was treated for minor cuts at a hospital before being placed under arrest. He was held without bond Friday in a Cobb County jail.
Marshall said the children were placed in the care of family friends until extended family members arrived from outside Georgia.
