Mouthful of a library gets a makeover

By
SAVANNAH - A new name for the local library was a small price to pay for free advertising.

After all, the Chatham-Effingham-Liberty Regional Libraries was a mouthful of a library system, stuck with financial obligations and an unappealing name.

But with the help of some art students, the system changed its name to Live Oak Public Libraries, without any extra expenses.

Students at the Savannah College of Art and Design produced 13 public service announcements featuring the new name and logo. It would have cost the library $10,000-$30,000 to have the work done professionally.

The new name, announced during a ceremony last week, allows the library system to have promotions that people won't just tune out.

The library only had to spend $795 to replenish administrative office supplies with new letterhead and envelopes. The other costs -- for library cards, new signs in libraries and brochures -- were funded through the Library Foundation.
