DECATUR - DeKalb County authorities filed murder charges Wednesday against a man held in connection with a body without hands that was found in neighboring Rockdale County.
Another charge against the suspect, who had not been positively identified, involved a similar slaying in DeKalb County 14 months ago.
The severed hands of the latest victim were found in a field in DeKalb on Tuesday, one day after the body was found. Police said they apparently had been cut off after the man was dead.
The suspect was scheduled to appear before a DeKalb County judge Wednesday night for a probable cause hearing.
``We're calling him Joe Doe because he has not been identified,'' DeKalb police spokeswoman Lt. Pam Kunz said.
The victim was identified, but Kunz said the department would not release his identification pending notification of relatives.
Kunz said the victim in the 2001 murder has not been identified.
