DECATUR - A man wanted on stalking charges was shot and killed during a scuffle with police early Tuesday. The DeKalb County medical examiner ruled the death a suicide.
William G. Lloyd, 56, was wanted in neighboring Gwinnett County for aggravated stalking and misdemeanor battery in an Oct. 10 incident in which he was accused of hitting his ex-wife.
DeKalb Police spokeswoman Lt. Pam Kunz said the officers located Lloyd at a motel and were trying to arrest him when he reached for a handgun.

``There was a struggle,'' she said. ``The suspect fired once, striking himself in the chest.''
Both officers also fired their weapons, and Lloyd suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
The officers, whose names weren't released, were not injured. They were placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
Lloyd was out on bond after being arrested in January for similar crimes against his ex-wife in Florida.
