MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA - A British broadcasting firm making a documentary about the life of slain civil rights leader the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. has begun filming in Alabama. <br>

Alabama Film Office executive director Brian Kurlander said the British Broadcasting Corporation is filming scenes in Birmingham, Montgomery and Selma. <br>

Andrew Williams, the film's producer and director, said the documentary will feature a great deal of historical footage surrounding King's life and also will focus on events that took place in private meetings that helped shape King's leadership style. <br>

In Montgomery, the Rev. Michael Thurman, pastor of King's former church on Dexter Avenue, said such films add to the reservoir of information about King and the civil rights era. <br>

The film is one in a series produced by the British Broadcasting Corp. that focus on leadership
