SYRACUSE, N.Y. - A Georgia man wanted in connection with a counterfeiting scheme in upstate New York was captured after he tried to escape by jumping out a third-story window, authorities said.
Bryant Heath Penland, 31, of Buford, Ga., was injured when he jumped from the attic of an apartment Monday after being cornered by federal agents and Syracuse police.

``He took a leap about 90 feet out of a third-story window,'' said Timothy Christine of the Secret Service. ``His injuries were deemed not life-threatening.''
Authorities believed Penland was in charge of printing phony money in a counterfeit operation broken up last week when agents seized equipment and arrested Corey Brumfield, 21, of Syracuse.

Brumfield was charged with using a gun to rob an undercover Onondaga County sheriff's detective. He also faces a felony count of the sale and distribution of counterfeit Federal Reserve notes.
Penland faces charges of manufacturing counterfeit Federal Reserve notes and distribution of counterfeit notes. Each offense carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Penland also was wanted on a probation warrant for a sex offense in Gwinett County, Ga., Christine said.
