Prisoner accused of trying to pull Trade Center death fraud

DALLAS - From the start, officials were suspicious about William Omuna&#39;s claim that his wife was killed in the World Trade Center attack.<br> <br> For one thing, he listed his address simply as Chambers Street in New York City.<br> <br> After investigating Omuna&#39;s request for federal relief money, authorities learned he had applied from his cell in the Paulding County Jail, where he has been in federal custody for immigration violations since July 1998.<br> <br> They also learned that Omuna, now under indictment in federal court in Atlanta, had been divorced 10 years and that his wife was living in Los Angeles.<br> <br> A federal magistrate on Tuesday ordered Omuna held without bond pending trial on charges he filed a false claim with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which is handling claims from the Sept. 11 attacks.<br> <br> Agent Gregory Simmons testified that Omuna said he was an attorney and that his wife had taken the day off from work on Sept. 11 to visit an investment banking firm in the World Trade Center.<br> <br> Omuna included a picture of the woman he said was his wife, Gail Omuna, writing &#34;Rest In Peace&#34; under the photo. But authorities noted that he didn&#39;t include her date of birth or Social Security number.
