ROME - Eight Floyd County jail inmates have been quarantined after two were hospitalized with staph infections.
The quarantined inmates were in good condition Thursday. They will remain separated from the other inmates pending the results of staph tests, Sheriff Tommy Rickman said.
One of the hospitalized inmates returned to the jail, and the other was still being treated at the hospital.
The skin infections were caused by bacteria believed to have originated from spider bites or state prisoners routinely transferred to the jail.
Rickman said the jail has been disinfected and sprayed for spiders.
