LOS ANGELES - Authorities found a truck that had been carrying nitric acid when it was stolen New Year's Eve, but one of the five 100-pound metal canisters containing the hazardous cargo was missing.
The truck, taken from the chemical distribution business Del Amo Chemicals Co., was found parked on an East Los Angeles street Friday afternoon, said Los Angeles Police Officer Don Cox.
The Police Department's bomb squad is involved in the investigation, he said.
The canisters, measuring 20 inches by 12 inches, had been loaded on the back of a stake-bed truck in preparation for shipment. Police said it was possible that whoever took the truck wasn't aware of the dangerous cargo.
