ATLANTA - Officials say the woman who was being dragged alongside a speeding car on Interstate 20 near Decatur had been shot already.
A DeKalb County man who was driving the car has been charged in her death and in the death of a man found shot in the car.
Atlanta homicide Sergeant W.R. Jackson says the woman was hanging out the side of the car, apparently caught in a seatbelt. He says she may have been trying to get away.
Atlanta Police spokesman John Quigley says the killings appear to be drug related. Drugs were found in the car and on the suspect, 20-year-old Andre Preston.
Neither of the victims have been identified publicly yet.
Authorities were responding to a call about shots being fired at 3 a.m. Tuesday morning when they saw a yellow Chevrolet Caprice pull away with what appeared to be a person hanging out of it.
Officers followed the car less than a mile on I-20 before Preston pulled into a median. He tried to run into some woods but was caught by police.
Police say the victims apparently gave the suspect a ride to an apartment complex. When they arrived, they say, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the man who was driving the car and the female passenger.
