SAVANNAH - Fifteen people lost their homes and one elderly man was hospitalized after an apartment house fire early Friday. <br>

The man, who was not identified, is in serious condition at a Savannah hospital, said John Rintoul, operations chief for the Savannah Fire Department. <br>

Firefighters found him asleep and engulfed in smoke in his second-story room, department spokeswoman Darlene Tuccillo said. <br>

Other residents of the house, including a young child and several teen-agers, escaped without injury, she said. <br>
<br>
It was not clear what caused the fire, but it appears to be accidental, fire investigator Todd Goldberg said.
