GAINESVILLE - Even with concerns from Fire Chief Dick Taylor, the Gainesville Planning commissioners voted to approve an amendment to a proposed development by Land Sellutions.
A 245 lot subdivision on Hope Road was already approved by the planning commission but Land Sellutions desired to increase the number of lots in their subdivision by 40.
Resident Broughton Cochran thinks the development by Land Sellutions will be a wonderful addition to the Gainesville community. Cochran says, "They give a lot of product and their developments are emmaculate."
Some residents did show up at the planning meeting with concerns about traffic problems on Hope Road and Poplar Springs Road.
One resident voiced his concern that there is only one exit and entrance into the subdivision. William Horne says, "I remain very concerned that there is not a secondary exit for this development."
Land Sellutions did conduct a traffic study which suggests adding a left-turn lane on Hope Road.
Other traffic concerns centered around speeding and the increase in congestion.
After listening to residents in favor and in opposition of the development, the planning commissioners voted to approve the application based on 4 conditions including a minimum of 15 feet between structures.
In other business, Chairman Joe Biddy presided over his last Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board meeting Tuesday night.
Biddy says he enjoyed serving as chairman of the board and commended the other commissioners on their hard work and dedication to the city of Gainesville. Danny Dunagan has been appointed as the new chairman.
