Body found in Forsyth County park identified

CUMMING - The former police chief of Snellville died Monday morning at Mary Alice Park in Forsyth County.

Sheriff's Captain Frank Huggins says 67-year-old John D. Hewett was a longtime friend.

A passer-by found Hewett's body and called police about 10:30 a.m.

Investigators at the scene immediately ruled out foul play. They now believe he died of a heart attack or stroke.

J.D., as he is known to most people, apparently had been out walking when he was overcome by the medical problem.
