ATHENS - The city of Athens will get a Catholic high school that's entirely self supporting - a first in the Archdiocese of Atlanta.
The school expected to open in 2004 will draw students from an hour away and will complement the Catholic education offered by St. Joseph's, a kindergarten through eighth grade school in Athens.
Stephen Holton, who works for a consulting firm working with the archdiocese, said the Office of Catholic Education is attempting ``to educate as many Catholic students as possible and to make a faith-based education available as economically as possible.''

Holton expects the new high school to begin with 32 students and the tuition to range from $5,000 to $9,000 per student.
Supporters have donated $1.6 million to building the school, but $3 million is needed before the school opens, Athens board member Terry Trotochaud.
Trotochaud said the school should eventually have an endowment of $7 million to $8 million.
