Archdiocese approves creation of Catholic high school in Athens

ATHENS - The city of Athens will get a Catholic high school that&#39;s entirely self supporting - a first in the Archdiocese of Atlanta. <br> <br> The school expected to open in 2004 will draw students from an hour away and will complement the Catholic education offered by St. Joseph&#39;s, a kindergarten through eighth grade school in Athens. <br> <br> Stephen Holton, who works for a consulting firm working with the archdiocese, said the Office of Catholic Education is attempting ``to educate as many Catholic students as possible and to make a faith-based education available as economically as possible.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> Holton expects the new high school to begin with 32 students and the tuition to range from $5,000 to $9,000 per student. <br> <br> Supporters have donated $1.6 million to building the school, but $3 million is needed before the school opens, Athens board member Terry Trotochaud. <br> <br> Trotochaud said the school should eventually have an endowment of $7 million to $8 million.
