ATLANTA - Atlanta Hawks point guard Emanual Davis will have season-ending surgery in the next few days to repair a broken bone in his left wrist.

Hawks general manager Pete Babcock says Davis would not be able to play again until next season.

Davis had hoped to put off surgery until after the season, but a Houston hand specialist said the risk was too great. Davis will have a piece of bone grafted form his hip to make the repair.

Davis, who came to Atlanta from Seattle and was expected to be the starting point guard, has not played since January 12. In 29 games this season, he averaged 6.5 points per game.

Earlier in the season he missed eight games with post-concussion syndrome.

To replace Davis on the roster, the Hawks signed forward Ira Newble to a 10-day contract on Tuesday. The 6-foot-7, 220-pound Newble averaged 21.4 points with Flint of the CBA.
