I think this could be one of the best situations in I-AA and black college football.''

Jones signed a four-year contract at about $100,000 per year, plus incentives, said Athletic Director Jim Martin.

Jones was picked for the head coaching job over interim coach Stan Conner and Baylor defensive coordinator Andrea Haley.

He replaces Ron Cooper, who resigned after a 4-7 season.

Jones was a tight end with the Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers and Dallas Cowboys.
