Gay breaks Greene's US record in 100 at trials
Tyson Gay got quite a fright in his first race Saturday. He set a record in his second. Gay broke Maurice Greene's American mark in the 100 meters by running 9.77 seconds in his quarterfinal at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials.

A's fall to Canton in 10 innings

The Atlanta Thrashers picked a local boy in the NHL entry draft Saturday. Right wing Vinny Saponari was chosen in the fourth round, 94th overall, to highlight the day for the Thrashers.

Lillibridge gets unexpected callup; Hampton looking sharp in minor league starts
Brent Lillibridge's second call to the major leagues may have been even more special than his first. Lillibridge was recalled from Triple-A Richmond for Saturday's game. Meanwhile, Mike Hampton pitched three scoreless innings in a minor league rehabilitation game for the Braves' Gulf Coast League team in Orlando on Saturday.

UNC forces deciding game with Fresno State
Chad Flack homered to get North Carolina to the College World Series in 2006 and 2007. This year, he homered to keep the Tar Heels in Omaha at least for another day. Flack's monster two-run shot in the bottom of the eighth inning Saturday night kept Carolina alive with a 4-3 victory over Fresno State.

Moore finally breaks through for Pro Late Model win
Several times this year Fredrick Moore had chances to get his first win of the season in the Pro Late Model division at Lanier National Speedway. Saturday night Moore started on the pole because of an inverted start, grabbed the lead on Lap 1, and this time held off all challengers in going flag-to-flag for the victory.
